Okay, so I spent a good two days trying to figure this out the Multimax ACC to N2 cable as there was not a whole lot of information online that told me exactly how to do it. So I decided that I will show you how to get the new Multimax's with the ACC port to turn on and off Pre-Release and Trigger your camera.
Okay let's get started.
Things you will need:
Pocketwizard MultiMAX with ACC port
Canon N3 Camera trigger. (I have a cheap 15 dollar Opteka trigger)
1 Stereo 1/8" (3.5mm) Jack (got mine from radio shack - came in a 2 pack)
Wire ( I used some old ethernet cable wire)
Wire Cutters
Small drill bit for pilot hole
15/64th drill bit for stereo plug
Solder
Soldering Iron
Male to male stereo chord.
First, open up the trigger and drill the pilot hole followed by the 15/64th drill bit. Make sure that the panel mount stereo jack fits in the place you're drilling it for.
Then, take three pieces of wire and solder it to the three connectors on the trigger, noting which is ground, half-press, and full-press.
This is the part that took me some experimenting to finally get right.
To get the PocketWizard to wake up with you enable the zone from the transmitter you need to solder the wires in the following order:
Tip= Full-Press
Middle= Ground
Bottom= Half Press
For the longest time, I tried to put the half press in the middle and ground at the bottom, but it's actually the opposite!
Next, just secure the phone jack inside the trigger and screw in all together. VOILA!
Also, this is how you actually operate the ACC port. The Reciever must be set to the same zone and channel as the transmitter. To turn off the Pre-Trigger, simple deactivate the zone on the transmitter. Turn on pretriggering by activating the zone. Hope this was helpful. I'll try putting pictures up when I get to it.
